Starbucks New "Trenta" Puts Shame to the Italian Tradition of Lattes

 ?

When I studied in Italy for four months, I enjoyed the morning cup of espresso with light milk foam sprinkled with cocoa powder every day (picture above I took in Florence of my daily delightful drink).  The American franchise "Starbucks" has turned the Italian latte into a beast of a different size. The Starbucks "trenta" meaning 30 in Italian, is similar to the size of a Big Gulp from a gas station. The Huffington Post did an eye-popping article comparing the size of the "Trenta" 916 ml. to the size of the human stomach that holds 900 ml. See link here.
I thought Starbucks entire image was based around trying to be European by naming all their drinks after Italian words and putting up pictures of travel destinations on their walls.  I'm pretty sure if you went to Italy they would hand you a meager 8 oz. cup and look at you with disgust is you asked for a "Trenta". Starbucks, Congratulations you are now no better than Dunkin' Donuts or Mc'Cafe.

  1. So true, so very true. Starbucks, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Dunkin Donuts, all the chains are all the same. I say we give some Italianos some incentives to move to Boston and open up some real coffee shops.
